Color of skin, hair and eyes is the third Body Element. It’s one many women know about because back in the 90s there was a big movement to understand what colors enhance these elements. The problem is this movement only talked about one of the clues this Body Element gives you. Also this movement gave you all the colors that look good on you. However, I found that most women don’t like to wear all those colors and they didn’t allow you to tap into your confidence and personal power. The Girls are the same.
In this post you’ll learn what clues the colors of Sam, Monica, Alice, Grace and Veronica’s skin, hair and eyes give them and what they learned in the process.
Color Skin, Hair & Eyes
This Body Element gives you three clues:
- What colors brighten them and you like to wear
- Color combinations which include:
- Colors that go with your favorite colors
- Relative lightness and darkness of these colors
- The first clue to the scale of prints and accessories
When determining what colors brighten your coloring, also figure out the ones you love to wear. These are the ones that help you tap into your confidence and personal power. Your whole wardrobe will be wrapped around these colors.
The contrast between the color of your skin, hair and eyes or color contrast profile tells you what other colors you can match with your favorite ones. This includes other colors on the color wheel and the relative lightness of those colors. By understanding these combinations of colors you’re able to tap into your confidence further.
There are three clues to help you determine the scale of prints and accessories. The color of your skin, hair and eyes is the first of these. It’s determined by the color contrast between them. Understanding your scale size is an important element of knowing what design lines enhance your natural beauty.

Color Skin, Hair & Eyes -- Sam
Sam has light skin with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Because there is a big contrast between her skin and hair/eyes her color contrast profile is high.
Favorite Colors
When Sam looks in her closet to determine which colors she loves to wear, she finds a sea of blue that matches her eyes. Whenever she wears this blue her eyes pop and your attention goes right there. She also likes wearing pinks and greens. Of these colors she’s determined that blue is her power color because she feels most alive whenever she wears it.
Color Combinations
Since Sam’s color contrast profile is high, she can use either triadic or complementary color combinations. After experimenting she found she liked the triadic color combination with her favorite blue, either triadic or complementary with her favorite pink and complementary with her favorite green.
After further experimentation she found adding white to these color combinations added more depth. Because she has a high color contrast profile she needs to use both very dark colors and very light ones.
Scale Of Prints & Accessories
The scale of prints and accessories clue that her color gives her is large because her color contrast profile is high. This clue will be combined with the other scale clues to create her Scale Strategy.
Color Skin, Hair & Eyes -- Monica
Monica has medium brown skin with almost black hair and brown eyes. Her color contrast profile is medium because her skin is medium brown and her hair is almost black.
Favorite Colors
When Monica looks at her closet she sees bright colors. She loves bright vibrant colors. They make her happy when she wears them. But when she looks closer there are three colors that stand out: green, yellow and orange/red (there is more orange than red in the color). These are the colors she migrates to mostly. Whenever she sees a blouse with these colors she buys it no matter the design lines. As a result many of these blouses just sit in her closet, but when she looks at them her soul smiles.
Of these colors the orange/red is her power color. Whenever she feels a little off she wears something with this color and it brings her right back to her confident cheerful self.
Color Combinations
Monica’s coloring gives her the clue as to which color combinations work best for her. This clue is given to her through her color contrast profile which is medium. Having this profile allows her to wear analogous and triadic color combinations. After trying on prints with these color combinations she found that analogous felt the best for her. She felt lighter when she wore these colors. The analogous color combination is made up of colors next to each other:
- Green — Blue/Green and Yellow/Green
- Yellow — Yellow/Orange and Orange
- Red/Orange — Orange and red
The relative lightness and darkness of these colors are also determined by her medium contrast color profile. As a result she can wear colors that are 2-3 rungs apart when using the analogous color combinations.
Scale Of Prints & Accessories
With Monica’s color contrast profile being medium, the scale of prints and accessories clue is medium. She’ll combine it with the other scale clues to create her Scale Strategy.
Color Skin, Hair & Eyes -- Alice
Alice’s skin color is light beige with slightly darker blonde hair and hazel green eyes. The colors of her skin, hair and eyes create a low color contrast profile.
Favorite Colors
When looking at Alice’s closet she sees olive greens (yellow/green), corals (red/orange) and violets. She determined with the help of a friend who understands colors that these colors match with colors on the Intensity Color Wheel. They don’t match exactly but her friend showed her that when she squints her eyes, the colors on the color wheel blend well. It appeared white was added with the grey.
All her life she’s gravitated to these colors. Mostly because whenever she wears them she always gets tons of complements even when she doesn’t feel 100 percent. Of these colors she loves wearing olive green the most because she feels grounded and connected. She thinks this is because she loves being out in nature and wearing it, she can bring nature with her.
Color Combinations
With Alice’s color contrast profile being low, she can wear monochromatic and analogous color combinations. When trying out each color combination she discovered that analogous feels best on her. She feels lighter and brighter when wearing this combination. She also found that colors on either said of her favorite color work best for her:
- Olive Green (Yellow/Green) — Yellow, Green
- Coral (Red/Orange) — Orange, Red
- Violet — Red/Violet, Blue/Violet
However because her color contrast profile is low the relative lightness and darkness of these colors need to be on the same color wheel rung.
Scale Of Prints & Accessories
Alice’s color contrast profile is low which gives her the clue of small for the scale of prints and accessories. She’ll combine it with the other scale of prints and accessories clues to create her Scale Strategy.
Color Skin, Hair & Eyes -- Grace
Grace’s skin color is between light and medium. Her hair is medium brown and her eyes are darker green. This combination creates a medium color contrast profile.
Favorite Colors
Grace’s closet is mostly filled with neutral colors in the brown family. She doesn’t feel comfortable with lots of color. However, she knows she gravitates to orange and muted greens. She loves the colors found in the fall because they feel cozy.
Color Combinations
Grace’s color contrast profile is medium which means her best color combinations are analogous and triadic. Her two favorite colors are two of the colors in the triadic color combination: orange, green and violet. This is a combination she finds herself using quite often. She also uses analogous color combinations:
- Orange, yellow/orange, red/orange
- Green, yellow/green, blue/green
With her color contrast profile being medium she can use colors on rungs 2-3 from her favorite colors. When using the analogous color combination she can use up to 3 rungs; while using the triadic color combination she should only combine up to 2 rungs. This is because this color combination in itself has more contrast.
This knowledge has helped her refine which color combinations enhance the color of her skin, hair and eyes which allows her to feel like she can conquer her world.
Scale Of Prints & Accessories
Since Grace’s color contrast profile is medium, her coloring gives her a medium clue for the scale of prints and accessories. To determine her Scale Strategy she’ll combine it with the other scale clues.
Color Skin, Hair & Eyes -- Veronica
Veronica’s skin and eyes are dark brown and her hair is black. This coloring translates into a low color contrast profile.
Favorite Colors
The colors you see most in Veronica’s closet are yellow, violet, and red. She loves wearing these colors equally. She considers them all her power colors. For her each one brings out different aspects of her personality. She loves yellow because it’s bright and cheerful. On days she doesn’t feel bright and cheerful she wears it. Violet helps bring her ability to connect with others. Red brings out the leader in her. Whenever she wears all these colors she feels like she’s on fire.
Color Combinations
Veronica called in a friend to help her determine which color combinations work best for her. Since she loves fully saturated colors she was having a hard time figuring it out. Together with her friend they figured out that analogous color combinations work best for her. Monochromatic color combinations also worked well for her low color contrast profile; however the colors weren’t fully saturated causing the colors of her skin, hair and eyes not to be as alive as with fully saturated colors.
Because her color contrast profile is low they determined that she had to stay on the same rung as her favorite colors. Calling a friend to help her determine her color combinations was the best decision for her.
Scale Of Prints & Accessories
Because Veronica has a low contrast Color Contrast Profile, the clue her coloring gives her for the scale of prints and accessories is small. Like Sam, Monica, Alice and Grace, she’ll combine this clue with her other scale clues to create her Scale Strategy.

Determining which colors and color combinations brighten the colors of your skin, hair and eyes can be an overwhelming process. Calling a friend, like Alice and Veronica, who seems to always wear colors that enhance her natural beauty is a great way to figure out yours or you could be like Sam and take the time to experiment with different combinations to find the best ones for you. You’ll know the right combinations when you feel like you can go out into your world and conquer it.
