What To Wear This Fall -- Jacket

Veronica saw this fall’s long jackets are in and this means it’s a perfect time for her to buy them. She learned that her Body Proportions give her the clue to wear jackets where the hem ends in her thigh area. When wearing the hem in this area, she’s amazed how it transforms how she feels.

Design Line & Color Analysis

Silhouette

Veronica learned that the silhouette of an outfit is an important design line. It’s the difference between the shoulders/waist, waist/hips and hips/shoulders. It comes in two categories: angular and curved. In an angular silhouette the shoulders/waist/hips appear to be the same width. On the other hand, a curved silhouette the waist is significantly smaller than the shoulders and hips.

Her Body Shape gives her clues as to which categories she should wear. She has an X Body Shape. Her waist is significantly smaller than her shoulders and hips. This means she should wear clothes with a curved silhouette.

This jacket has a slightly curved silhouette. When she tried it on she felt good in it and decided this is the jacket for her trip.

Horizontal Lines

Veronica now knows that horizontal line placement is critical for her Body Proportions. She spent years trying to figure out how to balance her body. Now she knows. Horizontal lines stop the eye, emphasize that area and make it appear wider and shorter. Her Body Shape and Body Proportions give her clues as to the placement of these design lines.

For her X Body Shape, Veronica can place them anywhere because she doesn’t have one area wider than another. It’s her Body Proportions where she needs to be strategic with placing horizontal lines.

Veronica’s legs are significantly longer than her torso. As a result, she wants to limit horizontal lines in her torso area but needs them in her leg area.

This jacket has three horizontal lines: pockets, sleeve hem and jacket hem. The pocket could be a problem because it’s in her mid-hip area; however because of the plaid design it blends into the body of the jacket. The sleeve hem hits her at her hips and isn’t enough to affect her Body Proportions. The critical horizontal line is the jacket hem. It hits Veronica at mid-thigh bringing attention to this area and making her legs appear a little shorter. This jacket’s horizontal lines are placed perfectly for Veronica’s Body Proportions.

Vertical Lines

Veronica also knows that vertical line placement is critical for her Body Proportions. Vertical lines move the eye up and down, and make the area appear thinner and taller. Her Body Shape and Body Proportions give her clues as to the placement of these design lines.

Like horizontal lines, Veronica can place them anywhere on her X Body Shape. It’s in her Body Proportions where she needs to strategically place them.

With Veronica’s torso being shorter than her legs, she wants vertical lines in this area to make it appear longer to create balance with her legs.

This jacket has one vertical line: the center front opening. It moves the eye from the shoulders down to the hem. As a result, her torso appears longer. This jacket’s vertical line is placed perfectly for Veronica.

Shape Of Design Lines

Veronica has a heart Face Shape. She learned that the clue it gives her is the shape of design lines, accessories and prints which come in two shapes: angular and curved. Her Face Shape falls into the curved category meaning she should wear curved shaped design lines, accessories and prints.

This jacket has a curved neckline and angular plaid print. The neckline works well for Veronica; on the other hand the plaid print doesn’t. The problem is she loves plaid prints because they bring back fond memories of growing up. They just make her happy. She learned that she just needs to make sure that all the other design elements work for her.

What To Wear This Fall -- Blouse

What To Wear This Fall -- Veronica Blouse

One of Veronica’s favorite colors is green. When she saw this blouse she fell in love with it. She also likes the tie because she can wear it in different ways.

Design Line & Color Analysis

Silhouette

Veronica’s experience over the last year of finding blouses with a curved silhouette is that it can be difficult. This blouse has an angular silhouette. She knows she has three options to transform it into a curved silhouette.

First, she can tuck it into her pants or skirt. However, this doesn’t really work because of her short torso. The second option is to wear a belt. This also doesn’t work because of her short torso.

Finally and really her only option, have darts sewn in the front and back. This works perfectly for her because these darts also create vertical lines making her torso appear longer. This is an added expense she’s willing to pay because she feels better when wearing clothes with the right silhouette. That in return allows her to concentrate on the task at hand.

Horizontal Lines

Veronica noted that there are five horizontal lines on this blouse: the bow, tie ends, top of sleeve cuff, bottom of sleeve cuff and blouse hem. The sleeve and blouse hems work perfect for her to create length; however the bow and tie ends can be problematic because they have the potential to make her torso appear shorter.

Veronica loved the softness of the bow tie and tried the blouse on with the jacket. She noticed that the impact of the bow tie softened when wearing the jacket. She also noticed that the tie can be taken off allowing her to get a whole new look.

Vertical Lines

Next, Veronica looked for vertical lines. She saw that the bow tie created shorter vertical lines along with the center from the packet. When she has darts sewn in, they created vertical lines to give even more length.

Shape Of Design Lines

The collar and the end of the ties have angular shapes; however, the softness of the bow works well with her curved Face Shape. Overall, Veronica loves this blouse including the fact she can wear it with or without the tie.

Color

Green is one of Veronica’s favorite colors. She chose this blouse because of the color.

What To Wear This Fall -- Pants

Veronica wanted to wear black pants. She looked for them in all the brand areas because every brand has a basic black pair of pants. When she came across these faux leather pants she knew she had a winner. The design lines work perfectly for her body’s clues.

Design Line & Color Analysis

Silhouette

Veronica first checked out the silhouette of the pants. She saw the hips appeared to be wider than the waist. This clue told her that the silhouette is curved. This is perfect for her curvy X Body Shape.

Horizontal Lines

When it came to horizontal lines, Veronica knew she needed one somewhere in the leg area, which she found. It was located in the lower thigh area. When pants are made from real leather, a horizontal line would be sewn in this area because most actual leather isn’t long enough to go from the waist to the floor. As a result a seam was made 2-3 inches about the knee to get a long enough length for a pant pattern.

Because Veronica has long legs, the hem hits her above her ankle. These horizontal lines added another layer of horizontal lines making her legs appear shorter.

The horizontal lines in this pair of pants works perfectly for Veronica because it makes her legs and coupled with the jacket’s hem, her legs appear shorter. Veronica loves the magic of design lines when strategically placed for her body’s clues.

What To Wear This Fall -- Ankle Boots

What To Wear This Fall -- Veronica

Veronica loves the ankle boots this fall. There were so many to choose from. She chose this because she loved the zipper down the front and she’ll be able to wear them with a lot of different outfits.

Design Line & Color Analysis

Horizontal Lines

One of the reasons why Veronica loves ankle boots is because they create a horizontal line above her ankle. When wearing her pants tucked in, a dress or skirt, it creates a horizontal line there helping her legs appear shorter.

Shape Of Design Lines

Veronica looked for curved shaped toes to match her curved Face Shape. This season she saw a lot of pointed and square toed ankle boots. She felt lucky that there were just as many round toe ones. The design line shape of these ankle boots are perfect for her.

When looking for a green handbag Veronica looked for ones that had a curved shape. The top of it is curved, perfect for her Face Shape.

Final Thoughts

Veronica surprised herself that she found several fall fashion trends that work with her body:a long blazer and faux leather pants. With the blazer hem hitting her in her upper leg area, the faux leather pants having a horizontal seam just above her knees and the knee boots hitting above her ankle her legs feel more balanced with her torso. As a result, she feels like she can conquer her day and more especially her time on stage as a panel member.
