Shopping For Bras — Grace

Grace finds shopping for bras frustrating just like Alice, but on the other end. She has a hard time finding bra cups small enough because her breasts don’t fill most bra cups. As a result, she wears camisoles all the time. She told her friends that she’d go with them to get fitted for a bra but had zero confidence there would be one made for her. In the end, Grace was pleasantly surprised.

Shopping For Bras -- Measurement

The bra specialist measured Grace’s ribcage as 31 inches and her bust line as 32 inches. Looking at her chart, the specialist determined Grace’s bra size as 34A. Grace feels self-conscious about her non-existent bust line.

Shopping for Bras -- Breast Shape

Having an A cup means Grace has petite breast shape. The bra specialist told Grace that even though she has petite breasts, she should wear some type of bra for support. Overtime gravity takes over and breasts will stretch and sag, no matter the size.

Shopping For Bras -- Type Of Bra

The bra specialist brought Grace four types of bras: demi cup, balconette, pushup and bralette.

Demi Cup

The first bra the bra specialist brought in was a demi-cup. Demi is French for “half cup.” As a result, this type of bra gives less coverage. This type of bra is great for Grace because many women with her breast shape are shallow on top. The cup doesn’t cover the breast fully.

Balconette

The next type of bra the specialist brought in was a balconette. She told Grace, like demi-cup bras, balconette bras give less coverage. But balconette bras push the breasts up like a balcony. The neckline tends to be sweetheart.

The bra specialist said the store didn’t have any in stock in Grace’s size but she could order one for Grace and have it sent to her house.

Pushup

Next, the specialist brought in push-up bras. She explained that pushup bras have extra padding on both the sides and bottom. Grace asked how that’s different from a balconette? The specialist explained that the balconette only has padding on the bottom pushing the breast up. A pushup bra pushes the breast up and inward creating cleavage.

Bralette

The last type of bra the specialist brought in was the bralette. She said the bralette gives Grace band support, which is important, while giving a natural breast shape. This type of bra would be a great alternative to wearing camisoles.

Shopping For Bras -- Grace Bralette

Grace’s favorite bras are: DKNY Litewear T-Shirt Bra and Calvin Klein Invisibles Comfort V-Neck Comfort Bralette. She bought tan and black in each one. Grace liked the pushup bra because it pushed her breasts up and in. She felt like a real woman and surprisingly it fit and was comfortable. The bralette felt like she was wearing a camisole but with support.

Shopping For Bras -- Final Thoughts

Grace now understands why having a bra that gives her support is important. It’s not just about her breasts being supported; but somehow she felt more supported as a person. Grace thinks she noticed it more than her friends because previously, she only wore camisoles. She surprised herself by purchasing the pushup bra. When she had it on, she felt feminine in a way she hadn’t felt before. She won’t wear it all the time but knows there are times it’s the appropriate option. Maybe she’ll surprise herself and wear it more.

Next it’s Veronica’s turn to share her experience shopping for bras. She also was surprised by the results. The blog post is called: Shopping For Bras — Veronica.
