Shopping For Bras - Monica's Favorite Bras

Shopping For Bras — Monica

It was Monica’s idea to go shopping for bras and have them professionally fitted. She read in a blog post that for clothes to fit well, the undergarments also need to fit well. Because she and her friends: Sam, Alice, Grace and Veronica were learning which design lines and colors enhance their natural beauty, they needed to wear the right undergarments.

It’s been several years since Monica purchased bras and when she purchased them, she based it on the size she’d been wearing. Therefore, it’d been years since she was professionally fitted. She was surprised by the results and how comfortable the bras felt.

Keep reading to find out what surprised Monica.

Shopping For Bras -- Measurement

The bra specialist measured Monica’s rib cage as 33 inches and her bust as 37 inches resulting in a 36D bra size. She explained that the measurements gave her a starting point and might need to go up or down a size in band and/or cup.

Shopping for Bras -- Breast Shape

When Monica put on the 36D bra, the bra specialist noticed the right breast filled out the bra cup and the left one didn’t. This meant Monica’s bust shape was uneven or asymmetrical. The specialist explained that most women have uneven bust shape and size; but, Monica’s unevenness is more pronounced. She further explained that there are 3 types of bras which work perfectly for Monica’s bust shape.

Shopping For Bras -- Type Of Bra

There are 3 types of bras that will work well for Monica: stretch fabric, spacer and removable padding. Monica told the specialist to bring in both underwire and wireless bras. In the past she always bought wireless; because she always found underwire bras to be uncomfortable. But this time she decided to be open to the bra that would fit her body the best.

The bra specialist explained that there are 3 types of bras that will work well for uneven breast shapes. First, stretch fabric, which molds to breast size and shape. The second type of bra is called a spacer bra. Two layers of knit fabric are knitted together with a spacer yarn creating air flow and light padding. The third type of bra has removable pads. One can remove or add pads to create the best fit.

The specialist brought Monica all 3 types of bras including underwire and wireless options. She brought in:

  • One stretch fabric bra:

3 spacer bras of which two were underwire and one wireless:

Monica found the Wacoal Halo Lace Molded Underwire Bra and b.tempt’d Women’s Future Foundation With Lace T Shirt Bra fit her uneven breasts the best and most surprisingly was the most comfortable. She never knew underwire bras could be so comfortable. As a result, she bought a tan and a black one.

Final Thoughts

When shopping for bras, follow Monica’s lead by being open to whatever bra fits your body the best and is the most comfortable. If you have always worn underwire, try on wireless and conversely, if you always bought wireless, try on underwire. Like Monica, you might be pleasantly surprised. As a result, you’ll feel better supported, your clothes will fit and look better, and most importantly, you’ll be able to tap into your confidence.
