Transform Clothes’ Design Lines -- Grey Pants Suit

Transform Clothes Design Lines -- Veronica

This jacket is perfect for Veronica in so many ways. First of all, it’s a great neutral color for her and perfect to showcase her brightly colored tops/blouses. The silhouette is curved matching her X Body Shape. The shape of the design lines: shawl collar and center front hem are also perfect for her Face Shape. Her face shape is Heart which is in the curved category and the shape of these design lines is curved. Finally the center front opening and shawl collar create vertical lines which help lengthen her short torso.

This jacket is perfect for Veronica in so many ways. First of all, it’s a great neutral color for her and perfect to showcase her brightly colored tops/blouses. The silhouette is curved matching her X Body Shape. The shape of design lines: shawl collar, shape of center front hem are also perfect for her Face Shape. Her face shape is Heart which is in the curved category. The shape of these design lines are curved. Finally the center front opening and shawl collar create vertical lines which help lengthen her short torso.

The design line that throws this jacket off for Veronica is the placement of the hem, a horizontal line. It’s placed between her waist and crotch; making her torso appear even shorter than her legs. In Veronica’s overall Body Proportion, her torso is shorter and her legs are longer.

Ways To Transform Jacket Design Lines

Unfortunately having the hem between her waist and crotch can’t be transformed. One thing Veronica can do is make sure the jacket is always buttoned. When it’s opened the horizontal line created by the waistband also causes her torso to appear even shorter.

However she can transform the proportions of the whole suit by making adjustments to the pants which will be discussed in the next section.

Transform Pants’ Design Lines

As with the jacket, the color of these pants is a great backdrop for Veronica’s bright tops/blouses. It has a curved silhouette matching her curved Body Shape. This is unusual for her because most pants are too big in the waist when they fit her hips.

The problem with these pants is the placement of vertical and horizontal lines. First, these pants have a center front and back crease which is typical for suit pants. In most cases it works for women’s Body Proportions: but not for Veronica. These creases create vertical lines making her legs appear even longer than her torso.

This pair of pants is full length. The hem goes to the floor. The pant legs themselves create vertical lines causing her legs to appear even longer.

Ways To Transform Pants' Design Lines

Veronica can transform the vertical lines in this pair of pants. First, she can press out the crease or have a dry cleaner press them out. It’s as simple as that.

Second, she can change the length and width of the pants. More specifically, she can transform the full length straight pant legs into ankle length slim pant legs. By turning the pants into ankle length the hem will be placed in the leg area making her legs appear shorter. Turning the pant legs from straight to slim creates a better profile for her. Veronica can also pair ankle boots or ankle strap shoes with the pant to create more horizontal lines and thus shorten the appearance of her legs.

Below are examples of ankle pants:

Final Thoughts

In the future, Veronica should look for long jackets where the hem hits her below her crotch. By doing this she can lengthen the appearance of her torso.

She should have all creases pressed out of her pants. This is an easy adjustment with big rewards.

Finally, she should look at the length of pants in her closet and what tops/blouses/jackets she’s pairing them with. If the tops/blouses/jackets/cardigans’ hems lay below her crotch, the length of pants can be full length. However if the tops/blouses/jackets/cardigans’ hems lay between her waist and crotch she should wear slim ankle pants.
